The simple and convenient automotive diagnostic fault code checker.

Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)

Manufacturer Specific Codes

The number and diversity of automotive fault codes or diagnostic trouble codes (DTC's) can be quite bewildering without having to try and understand what they all mean. OBD2Codes.co.uk is designed as a simple and convenient lookup for all of the most commonly used diagnostic fault codes. Just enter your fault code or PID code in the custom search box above.

Car manufacturers often modify or add extensions to the existing standardized OBDII protocol which necessitates the requirement for vehicle specific automotive datalogging and diagnostic equipment. Inexpensive off the shelf OBDII automotive diagnostic kits may not provide full compatibility with all vehicles because of this proprietary specialization by the vehicle manufacturers. OBD2Codes.co.uk does not attempt to include all the various vehicle and model specific extensions. Our PID search (Parameter Identification Numbers) will list and explain all standardized OBDII fault codes.

A Brief Introduction To OBD

On-board diagnostics (OBD) is an automotive term referring to a vehicle's self-diagnostic and reporting capability. OBD systems give the vehicle owner or repair technician access to the status of the various vehicle sub-systems

The amount of diagnostic information available via OBD has varied widely since its introduction in the early 1980's. Early versions of OBD would simply illuminate a engine check light if a problem was detected but would not provide any information as to the nature of the fault. Modern OBD implementations use a standardized digital communications port to provide real-time data in addition to a standardized series of diagnostic trouble codes (DTC's), which allow identification and subsequent repair of the identified fault.
